SublettingU lists verified student sublets near Ohio State in the South Campus Gateway, Short North, Victorian Village, Italian Village, Clintonville, and the off-campus blocks along North High Street, East 13th Avenue, and Lane Avenue. Use the AI search to describe what you need — for example, "furnished 1BR walking distance to Thompson Library under $1,000/month." Most OSU sublets are posted by students leaving Columbus for summer internships, study abroad, or co-op rotations. Every lister goes through ID verification.
Student sublets near Ohio State typically run $700–$1,300 per month for a room in a shared apartment or house. The South Campus Gateway and the apartment complexes along North High Street command the highest prices for walking-distance convenience. Victorian Village, Italian Village, and the Short North run mid-range with strong neighborhood character. Clintonville and the off-campus houses on East 14th, 15th, and 16th Avenue are the most affordable. Most furnished sublets bundle utilities and high-speed internet.
The off-campus area immediately north and east of Ohio Stadium — North High Street, Lane Avenue, the East 13th–17th Avenue corridor — has the densest concentration of student rentals. The Short North and Victorian Village are popular with grad students and Fisher MBA students for walkable bars, restaurants, and art galleries. Clintonville sits just north of campus and is favored by quieter upperclassmen and graduate students. Italian Village and Harrison West are popular for short-term furnished summer sublets near downtown internship sites.
Start in March, ideally early March. OSU's Fisher College of Business and engineering students confirm summer internship plans (JPMorgan Chase, Nationwide, Cardinal Health, Intel's Licking County semiconductor campus, Honda) in late winter and post their apartments quickly. Inbound demand from interns at Columbus employers also picks up in March. Furnished sublets in the South Campus Gateway and along North High Street go within 1–2 weeks of posting. Setting a saved-search alert in February is not too early.
For summer terms and for most upperclassmen, subletting near Ohio State is significantly cheaper than university housing. A summer sublet in a shared house off North High Street runs $600–$900/month all-in, compared with substantially higher per-month equivalents for on-campus housing once meal plans are factored in. Sublets also include kitchens, in-unit laundry, and parking — things dorms don't. For first-year students required to live on campus, this calculation doesn't apply.
Not for the immediate campus area. The South Campus Gateway, North High Street, and the East 13th–17th Avenue blocks are all walkable to OSU's main campus. CABS (Campus Area Bus Service) is free for students and covers most off-campus routes. COTA buses connect campus to downtown Columbus, the Short North, and Clintonville. A car is helpful for groceries (Kroger, Trader Joe's in Clintonville) and for internships at Easton, Polaris, or Dublin, but many OSU students do without one.
