Seattle is a major tech internship hub with Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, Expedia, and hundreds of startups. University of Washington students regularly sublet in the U-District, Wallingford, and Capitol Hill during summer quarters when they pursue tech internships or leave for other programs. Seattle also attracts tech interns from universities nationwide, driving strong inbound demand for furnished student housing from June through September.
SublettingU lists verified student sublets near UW in the University District (U-District), Ravenna, Wallingford, and Capitol Hill. Seattle's summer sublet market is competitive due to tech intern demand — set up saved search alerts and respond quickly. Many UW students departing for Amazon, Microsoft, or Google internships elsewhere sublet fully-furnished apartments for the summer quarter.
Student sublets near UW range from $1,000 to $1,900 per month for a room in a shared apartment. The U-District (closest to campus) runs $1,000–$1,600. Wallingford and Ravenna offer comparable or slightly lower prices. Capitol Hill, while farther from campus, is popular for its cultural scene at $1,200–$1,900. Seattle prices have increased significantly — all-inclusive furnished summer sublets are increasingly common and worth the premium.
The University District (NE 45th Street corridor) is the primary student neighborhood — walkable to campus and packed with cafes, restaurants, and student housing. Ravenna (northeast of campus) is quiet and residential. Wallingford is a slightly farther but well-regarded neighborhood with strong transit access. Capitol Hill is 20–25 minutes from UW by bus but popular with students who prioritize culture and nightlife over commute time.
February through March. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google internships start in June and students competing for U-District and Wallingford sublets include both UW students leaving and students from other universities arriving for tech internships. Seattle summer sublets are among the most competitive in the country — start your search no later than March for June move-in. The U-District's best furnished apartments are often gone before April.
UW is exceptionally well-served by transit. The UW Station on the Link Light Rail connects campus directly to Capitol Hill, downtown Seattle, Sea-Tac Airport, and Bellevue in minutes. Multiple bus routes serve the U-District, Wallingford, and Ravenna. Most UW students manage without a car — the Link rail makes commuting to Amazon's South Lake Union campus or downtown Seattle offices easy. A car is useful for trips to Microsoft's Redmond campus.
